Pharmacy technician
Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists to dispense prescription medication. Depending on the position, the technician may fulfill a range of job responsibilities. Technicians may manage third-party billing, answer telephones, direct customers to items or to the pharmacist for medication consultation, receive written prescriptions, clean and sterilize dispensing bottles and instruments, answer questions regarding non-drug products and collect payments. They work in retail and hospital settings.
In our noncredit, short-term training pharmacy technician program, you will:
- Train with industry professionals to learn best practices in the field
- Prepare to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board鈥檚 CPT exam to become a certified pharmacy technician

Program Details
- Lecture: Online via D2L. Asynchronous delivery 鈥� no set class days/times
- Materials: Class materials are released online weekly on Sundays by 12 am. Assignments are due on Saturdays by 12 am.
- Textbooks: A hard copy textbook and workbook are provided, plus a pharmacy technician math textbook.
- According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment in the pharmacy field is expected to grow seven percent from 2021-2031.
- The median annual wage for pharmacy technicians was $41,000 in May 2024.
The program cost is $1,300, including textbooks and supplies. Federal and state aid are not available to offset costs. A payment plan is available. Additionally, WIOA funding is available for those who qualify.

The Pharmacy Technician program is designed to prepare students to apply for licensure or certification in Illinois. Program completion may not meet educational requirements for licensure or certification in a state other than Illinois.
